Book your session to participate in this study.

Parent-and-Me Play Sessions are part of an online research study for 6 to 24 month olds. It focuses on the interactions that occur between a caregiver and a baby during play at home. During the study session, you and your child play together using whatever toys you have at home. Total participation time is approximately 45 minutes, and includes:

  • A 15 to 20 minute questionnaire to be completed before the appointment date.
  • A 15 to 25 minute Zoom call with an Infant Cognition Lab staff member, who will facilitate the play session and possibly complete an additional questionnaire with you.

Participation is completely voluntary, and participants receive a $10 Amazon gift card after completing a session. To complete this study, you will need:

  • A laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and microphone.
  • A quiet space with a stable background.
  • A highchair or a booster seat for your child to sit in.
  • 3 to 5 toys for you and your child to play with (these toys should NOT be electronic, please!).

Getting Ready for Research at Home

A step-by-step guide on how to prepare for participating in a Parent-and-Me play session at FAU's Infant Cognition Lab.

parent email instructions Instructions via Email

We'll send you an email with instructions for your Zoom appointment and a survey link to complete beforehand, so you are all set for your session.

parent email instructions Find a Quiet Space

Try your best to find a quiet space in your home with a constant light source and minimal background movement to limit distractions during the session.

parent bring What to Bring

We ask that you prepare around 3 to 5 toys. Toys that work well for this study include: stacking rings and shape sorters, puzzles and books, blocks and play food. Please, nothing electronic.

parent set up Getting Set Up

You and your child should be seated facing each other. You'll need to have your child in a booster seat or high chair so that we can see their behaviors and your study session can be recorded.

parent camera Camera Positioning

For this study, we need to see both you and your child while you interact. Your webcam should be positioned in a stable place far enough away from you so that we can see both of you from the waist up.

parent cloud Cloud Recordings

Once the study is over, a recording of the session will be automatically uploaded to the lab's Zoom Cloud and only be accessible to authorized research staff.
